AUDITIONS at Josephina Lopez's Theatre CASA 0101
Casa 0101 is casting ALWAYS & FOREVER:ALWAYS & FOREVER follows Alma, a teenage girl from Bell Gardens CA, who is determined to have local corrido-singing heartthrob Adán Sánchez perform at her quinceañera. Alma’s journey into womanhood gets complicated when she prays for guidance, but accidentally conjures Jesús Malverde, the narco-saint. An exploration of Latino youth culture, banda music, border politics and magical realism.Rehearsals begin April 13, 2009 for 15 performances, running May 22 - June 14.
ALMA: Female - Hispanic/Latina - To play 15 years old - Spirited and likeable. Fan of banda music. Planning her quinceañera; misses her estranged father.
CELIA: Female - Hispanic/Latina - 20s - Alma’s older sister. Strong and motherly.
JOSÉ: Male - Hispanic/Latino - 20s - Celia’s boyfriend. College student and Chicano activist. Into MEChA and the anti-war movement. Passionate idealist.
OLIVIA: Female - African American - 20s - Celia’s best friend, and our narrator. Artsy photography student. Kind, nurturing and insightful.
MOY: Male - Hispanic/Latino - To play 16 years old - Comic Relief. Fast-talking goofball. The funny neighborhood prankster. Has a crush on Alma.
MALVERDE: Male - Hispanic/Latino - 40s - Ghost of a Mexican folk hero killed in 1909; fatherly trickster, patron saint of border crossers and drug dealers.
NARDO: Male - Hispanic/Latino - 30s - Mexican corrido musician. Boisterous and flirtatious. Ability to play guitar or Mexican accordion a big plus, but not required.
BOXER: Male - Hispanic/Latino - 20s - Reformed gangster. ”East LA thug” look. Spiritual, laid back and wise. A local shaman and “healer” of lowrider cars. His brother was recently killed in Iraq.
RUDY: Male - Hispanic/Latino - 20s - Alma’s older brother. East-side hipster. Morrissey/Rockabilly style. Moody and pensive, with a secret: he was in love with Boxer’s brother._____________________To schedule an audition,
