Are you tired of your parent’s rules and restrictions?

Ever wonder what it would be like to live with another family?

If you would like a short vacation from your parents (w/ parental approval), and are up for the challenge;  Here is your chance!

This is an opportunity for teens ages 14 – 17 years old to go live with another family and trade in their parents for a new set for almost an entire week and to find out if the grass is greener somewhere else!

We are looking for ALL types of teens with unique interests; technically savvy teens; hippies; urbanites; slobs; surfers; affluent teens; liberals; defiant teens; and teens who have ordinary or extraordinary circumstances

2009 Spring Break Assignments

DRAMA 1 Goal: Students will be able to read and understand grade level material. Objective: Students will engage in independent reading while taking Cornell notes Standard: RC 2.2, LRA 3.2,W 1.3 Assignment: Students will complete the Cornell notes packet while reading each Act in Luis Valdez’s “Zoot Suit” Due: Tuesday, April 28, 2009 Total value: 100 points Example: One set of notes for each Act.

Drama 2 Goals: Students will be able to develop creative ways to problem solve. Objective: Students will re-teach the specified theatre units to their classmates. Standards: T.A. 3,5,7 Assignment: 1. Students are to read their specified nits in their “Theater Arts 2” Workbook **Note: There will be activities that require for you to participate in class. These are the activities/exercises you will teach the class so know them well. There also brief writing assignments that must be completed and turned into Mrs. Zuniga when you present. Make sure your read carefully through the units and do not leave any activity undone. Use the rubric as a check of list to make sure you have completed all the work. 2. Students are to complete all activities and present their findings to the class. 3. One member, from the group will write the 1 page essay (MLA style) of the group’s specified topic. The essay is entirely different writing assignment then the ones in the activities. Due Date: Tuesday, April 21

TECH THEATRE

 GET STARTED ON THIS PROJECT NOW! DO NOT WAIT! Goals: Students will learn the fundamentals of a theatre production. Objective: Students will create a power point presentation which covers their specific chapter. Students will write a one page summary of their chapter (s) and develop an oral presentation. Textbook: Use your workbook “Stagecraft 1” to complete assignment. Power point presentations guidelines: 1. 15 min.- 20 max slides 2. Information must be bullet point format 3. Include pictures and captions 4. Font must be legible and not just because it’s cute 5. Presentation must cover the entire chapter(s) 6. Simple background templates Oral Presentation: 1. Speak clearly 2. Use flashcards 3. Be informative 4. use academic language and vocabulary you are learning in your chapters Written Presentation: 1. Summary paper 2. 1 – 2 pages 3. MLA style format 4. Grammar, spelling, format count

AUDITIONS at Josephina Lopez's Theatre CASA 0101

Casa 0101 is casting ALWAYS & FOREVER:ALWAYS & FOREVER follows Alma, a teenage girl from Bell Gardens CA, who is determined to have local corrido-singing heartthrob Adán Sánchez perform at her quinceañera. Alma’s journey into womanhood gets complicated when she prays for guidance, but accidentally conjures Jesús Malverde, the narco-saint. An exploration of Latino youth culture, banda music, border politics and magical realism.Rehearsals begin April 13, 2009 for 15 performances, running May 22 - June 14.

ALMA: Female - Hispanic/Latina - To play 15 years old - Spirited and likeable.  Fan of banda music.  Planning her quinceañera; misses her estranged father.

CELIA: Female - Hispanic/Latina - 20s - Alma’s older sister.  Strong and motherly.

JOSÉ: Male - Hispanic/Latino - 20s - Celia’s boyfriend.  College student and Chicano activist.  Into MEChA and the anti-war movement.  Passionate idealist.

OLIVIA: Female - African American - 20s - Celia’s best friend, and our narrator.  Artsy photography student.  Kind, nurturing and insightful.

MOY: Male - Hispanic/Latino - To play 16 years old - Comic Relief.  Fast-talking goofball.  The funny neighborhood prankster.  Has a crush on Alma.

MALVERDE: Male - Hispanic/Latino - 40s - Ghost of a Mexican folk hero killed in 1909; fatherly trickster, patron saint of border crossers and drug dealers.

NARDO: Male - Hispanic/Latino - 30s - Mexican corrido musician.  Boisterous and flirtatious.  Ability to play guitar or Mexican accordion a big plus, but not required.

BOXER: Male - Hispanic/Latino - 20s - Reformed gangster.  ”East LA thug” look. Spiritual, laid back and wise.  A local shaman and “healer” of lowrider cars. His brother was recently killed in Iraq.

RUDY: Male - Hispanic/Latino - 20s - Alma’s older brother.  East-side hipster.  Morrissey/Rockabilly style.  Moody and pensive, with a secret: he was in love with Boxer’s brother._____________________To schedule an audition,

Update on current Thespians

Drama club would like to share information about an exciting event. One of our very own drama students named Ryan Stokes (he played Tony in West Side Story and Lloyd in Noises Off) is in a band called Black Delta.

Ryan is the lead vocalist, co-song writer, and guitarist. The band has been together for about two years and is doing very well. Currently, the band is competing for a trip to Germany for the BIGGEST BATTLE OF THE BANDS.

PLAY WRITING AND IMPROV CLASSES

CASA 0101 was founded by Josefina Lopez who grew up in Boyle Heights and created a vision to bring live theater and her educational and cultural experiences to the predominantly Spanish-speaking immigrant community of Boyle Heights. Boyle Heights is special community with a rich history that is a microcosm of the American immigrant experience. It is a place full of Jewish, Japanese, and Mexican history, art, community, and tolerance. It is a place that nurtured many talented Latinos important to the history of L.A.

CASA 0101 is offering play writing and improv courses to children and teens. The cost of the courses is a $10.00 DONATION!!
